There is a lot of hype about making money online, and we discussed this in the last article, but what is the Reality.  Well I’ve given you my own story so far, and it shows that there is no such thing as an overnight success, not in today’s saturated market place.  It probably was easier, in the early days, when no-one had heard about blogging, but now it’s a different ballgame.  But don’t be disheartened, and join me in finding out how we can use this knowledge to inspire us in our own endeavours.

The Hunger to Succeed

I remember a long time ago reading about how Thomas Edison when asked about his continued failure in his experiments in the development of the carbon filament light bulb, saying something like:

I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work, which makes me that much closer to discovering the way it will work.. Thomas Edison

I don’t think that’s an exact quote, but I think you get the point.  The key thing is determination.  “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration“.  Lot of people fail, because they give up when the going get’s tough, or they really don’t put the amount of effort and energy into the task that it demands.  Look at the millions of blogs and websites out there, it’s very easy to spot the ones that are half-baked, and don’t really have genuine, reliable content.

Building something of substance, does n’t happen overnight.  But, and this is the whole point of this follow up post.  Success is there, and it can be achieved.  What we need is to be inspired, by those who have achieved this.

ProBlogger - A case in point

Now, in my own case, I had a reason to start blogging because I wanted to see whether I could make money online on the internet.  But, that on it’s own is n’t enough.  Real success comes to those who are hungry for it and are determined to get it.  I guess my inspiration came originally from the book by Darren Rowse & Chris Garrett called ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six Figure Income.  It’s well-written and tells the story of how they achieved their success and it’s worth reading.

Darren Rowse was working part-time on several jobs while training to be a minister and blogging at night, into the early hours of the morning.  The success did n’t come overnight either, and came by chance through another blog on photography he started as an offshoot of his main blog.  Even now, if you go to  ProBlogger and read what he’s up to, he’s aware of how his main site audience are not people who will fall for anything, his advertising space is targeted to his tech-savvy readers.  It’s all about, awareness, change and constantly growing.

A picture paints a thousand words

I came across something, which prompted me to write this follow up article, because I felt I might have painted a negative picture in my previous post.  Because, I’m not negative about my efforts, but what you must do is have a realistic expectation.  In ProBlogger you will learn that most successful blog sites take 18 months to 3 years to establish themselves and get a decent ranking.  So, 1 month on I still have a long way to go.  I came across the following picture, and the reason I’m showing it to you, is because I want you to be inspired, to help you motivate your own efforts, to realise that YES, it is possible, it can be done.

This is the picture of Jeremy Schoemaker who owns the website shoemoney, and he’s holding his google adsense check, yes not my $26.54 but a whopping $132,994.97.  Go look him up on Google and on his site you’ll find a Photo Gallery showing loads of pictures of other’s holding their cheques up.  I know in my previous article I said, don’t be fooled by the Ferraris, but these are n’t fake photos, these are people showing off their success and if you visit their websites, it will give you a clue as to what works and what does n’t, just like Thomas Edison.

Jeremy Schoemaker’s story is worth reading too because you will come to realise that it does n’t happen overnight.  Ok you can say for both examples I’ve chosen in my article, they started off at a time when things were different, and it’s not the same anymore for us.  But be inspired. Google’s earnings are in the billions of dollars space, they don’t do it alone, they need us, YOU and me to make that advertising work.

Conclusions

What’s interesting to me is that all the successful people in this area have not stuck with one idea, they’ve branched out and kept their main interest going, but also tried out other options and ideas.  So don’t get stuck in a rut, be open to new ideas, and try different things out.  If one does n’t work, try something else, but above all stay determined, find that hunger in yourself to succeed, because without it your goal will be out of reach.

So remember, be POSITIVE, it CAN be done, and be INSPIRED.
